Roskilde er en by med godt 50.000 indbyggere og i vores by har vi 3 Rotary klubber, hvor Roskilde Syd Rotary Klub er den yngste. Klubben er en del af Rotary-distrikt 1480, som omfatter Region Sjælland med i alt 47 klubber og ca. 2.000 medlemmer. Klubben er en moderne indstillet Rotaryklub, som er stiftet i 1975. Klubben har p.t. 58 medlemmer.
I overensstemmelse med de godt 1,2 millioner medlemmer i de 32.500 Rotary-klubber, der eksisterer i 168 lande, er klubben etableret med det formål at fremme og styrke viljen til at tjene andre som en forudsætning for al god virksomhed.
Klubbens formål er at styrke det enkelte medlems indsats inden for erhverv og samfund og give inspiration til dagligdagen. Det er klubbens grundsyn, at det er en forudsætning for al god virksomhed, at viljen til at hjælpe andre fremmes og styrkes. I et godt og socialt udviklende kammeratskab og gennem udveksling af erfaringer fremmes medlemmernes samfundsorientering og samfundsbevidsthed. Roskilde Syd Rotary Klub engagerer sig i at påvirke samfundet i positiv retning og yde en indsats i lokalsamfundet.
Fællesskabet fremmer den internationale forståelse blandt andet gennem udvekslingsprogrammer og klubben deltager således aktivt i Rotary Internationals Ungdomsudvekslings program. Hvert år udsendes en skoleelev i alderen 16-17 år på et studieophold i udlandet og tilsvarende er klubben vært for en udenlandsk skoleelev i et år på det vi i Rotary verdenen kalder Long Term udveksling. Hvert tredje år arrangerer klubben en ungdomslejr for 20 unge mennesker fra udlandet – i Rotary verdenen bliver disse lejre kaldt Short Term udveksling – og det er sådan en lejr vi afvikler igen i 2018.
Hvert år indbetaler klubben et bidrag til Rotary Internationals Hjælpefond. På verdensplan påtager denne fond sig en række udviklingsprojekter, hvoraf det største er i samarbejde med FN at udrydde polio. Roskilde Syd Rotary Klub bidrager til dette arbejde.
Klubben har gennem de sidste15 år doneret midler til Læger uden Grænser, SOS Børnebyerne og Verdens Børn til deres Internationale hjælpearbejde. Klubben har været fadder for 2 børn under uddannelse i Uganda. Klubben har gennemført Rent Vand projekter i Uganda og Zambia og har ydet hjælp til et børnehjem og en skole i Mukono, Uganda og igennem årene har Roskilde Syd Rotary Klub jævnligt støttet flere lokale frivillige foreningers arbejde.
Roskilde located 30 km (19 mi) west of Copenhagen on the Danish island of Zealand, is the main city in Roskilde Municipality. With a population of about 50,000 the city is a business and educational centre for the region and the 10th largest city in Denmark. Roskilde has a long history, dating from the pre-Christian Viking Age. Its UNESCO-listed Gothic cathedral, now housing 39 tombs of the Danish monarchs, was completed in 1275.
In our city we have 3 Rotary clubs where Roskilde South Rotary Club is the youngest. The club is part of Rotary District 1480, which comprises Region Zealand with a total of 47 clubs and approx. 2,000 members. The club is a modern set-up Rotary club, founded in 1975. The club has at the moment 58 members.
In accordance with the 1.2 million members in the 32,500 Rotary clubs that exist in 168 countries, the club is established with the purpose of promoting and strengthening the will to serve others as a prerequisite for all good business.
The club’s purpose is to strengthen the individual’s efforts in business and society and to inspire daily life. It is the club’s premise that it is a prerequisite for all good business that the will to help others is promoted and strengthened. In a good and socially developing comradeship and through the exchange of experience, members’ community orientation and community awareness are promoted. Roskilde South Rotary Club is committed to influencing society in a positive direction and making efforts in the local community.
The Community promotes international understanding, among other things through exchange programs, and the club actively participates in the Rotary International’s Youth Exchange Program. Every year, a schooleval aged 16-17 is given the chance to study abroad and, accordingly, the club has hosted a foreign school student for a year on what we call the long-term exchange in the Rotary world. Every third year, the club organizes a youth camp for 20 young people from abroad – in the Rotary world, these camps are called Short Term Exchange – and it is such a camp we will settle again in 2018.
Every year, the club pays a contribution to the Rotary International Support Fund. Worldwide, this fund has a number of development projects, the largest of which is in cooperation with the United Nations to eradicate polio. Roskilde South Rotary Club contributes to this work.
Throughout the last 15 years, the club has donated funds to Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation, SOS Children’s Villages and World Children for their International Assistance. The club has been the sponsor of 2 children undergoing education in Uganda. The club has completed Clean Water projects in Uganda and Zambia and has provided assistance to a orphanage and a school in Mukono, Uganda and throughout the years, Roskilde South Rotary Club has regularly supported the work of several local voluntary associations.
